Revised 3D Printed Adapter for 35mm Film Canisters as a 120 Format Spool Released! On October 29, an updated version of the matching spool was added (thing ID: 522005). Previously, on October 7, a combined STL file was introduced. On July 6, a PDF Read Me guide to using the adapter was also uploaded. On June 16, an updated file was released to improve fit and reduce friction. However, it may be loose on some commercial canisters but will now fit CineStill film and possibly Kalt. Printing is recommended with 50% infill. This adapter allows the use of 35mm film canisters in 120 medium format cameras, exposing the entire 35mm film for a unique effect. The spool centers the 35mm film and enables shooting films not available in 120 format. A matching spool can be obtained from http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:522005. To use the adapter, ensure the splines are aligned before gently attaching it. Trim or sand if tight, and note that some canisters might require trimmed splines. The red window film number viewing hole must be taped over for proper usage. Winding should be done blindly. After exposure, manually rewind the film in a darkroom or changing bag. Designed for the Flyer 6x6 camera from Pinhole Printed Kickstarter project (pinholeprinted.com), this adapter can also work with any 120 medium format camera. The combined STL is ready to print, while individual parts require rotation before printing. Infill recommendations are now at 50% due to the splines' small cross-section. For non-3D printer users or those with limited access, alternatives can be found at http://www.pinholeprinted.com/order/35mm-film-to-120-spool-adapter/. Shapeways also offers excellent service. The adapter is licensed under CC by SA 3.0. Users are free to print or sell it, but attribution must be provided. Thing Tags can be printed and displayed for this purpose.
