32 Tooth Venom Mach 1 Pulley

Riding skateboard is a great way to get around, whether shopping at a local farmers market or getting around your college. However, pushing them over long distances or up hills is tiring and slow. An electric skateboard solves these two problems, as it allows for fast, easy, and clean transportation. But electric skateboards, even DIY ones, are often too expensive for a student. The cheapest usable mass-produced electric skateboards cost $400, and niche DIY parts don't offer many savings. The key to building electric skateboards on a budget is 3D printing parts.I designed this pulley to give those on a budget a new option for a skateboard wheel. The Venom Mach 1 Magnums are great wheels, mostly because of their small diameter and large contact patch. When combined with Venom's legendary urethane formula, the wheels are grippy, comfortable, and relatively affordable (I got these for $60 while other quality electric skateboard wheels cost upwards of $100). The problem with these wheels is that their core (the hard plastic inner part) doesn't match the typical pattern used in electric skateboard wheel pulleys. Previously, you had to wait for a group-buy to pop up, and then pay $100 in order to get custom CNC'ed pulleys for these wheels. My pulley addresses both of these problems, needing only a 3D-print and a 688 2RS bearing. I printed five test pieces to hone the dimensions and get a perfect fit in the core. An additional feature that these bring over other available pulleys is their ability to be used on standard skate trucks. The pulley shares a bearing with the wheel, allowing it to fit on a shorter length axle than a standard press fit pulley (these normally need an extra 8mm of axle length to fit a 3rd bearing just for the pulley). In the end, my pulley cuts down on the cost of a DIY electric skateboard, gives builders a new choice of wheels, and allows them to use standard skate trucks instead of expensive and bulky extended axle trucks. The pulley is designed to be printed in PETG, with 100% infill for the most strength. Since it is an essential part of the electric skateboard drivetrain, it must be strong enough to keep up with aggressive riding. it is also designed to fit 12mm wide htd5 belts, the most common size for electric skateboards. I hope that other makers will find this pulley and be inspired not only to build their own skateboards, but to design and innovate in order to find new solutions to their problems.Installation instru...
