A simple encoder wheel consists of a quadrature shaft or 1-channel encoder. The design features STL files compatible with 5 mm and 8 mm diameter shafts, along with an OpenSCAD file to facilitate custom size configurations. For detection purposes, two 0603 LED-phototransistor pairs are utilized with 0.200" spacing to generate a quadrature output signal. Constructing the detector can be somewhat intricate, and this prototype yields approximately 32 counts per turn.
