This provides a wedge that can be used to mount a small fan at an angle, offering flexibility in airflow direction. For instance, I prefer to install the cooling fan on my e3dv6 hot end with the flow exhausted out through the fan instead of back through the hot end itself. A 10-degree wedge is utilized to direct the airflow slightly upwards, helping to keep it off the print surface. Two STL files are available for download. The file 30mm_10degrees.stl provides a 10-degree wedge suitable for use with typical 30mm fans. Similarly, the file 40mm_10degrees.stl offers a 10-degree wedge compatible with standard 40mm fans. By tailoring parameters in the openSCAD source code, other configurations can be achieved. The gallery picture displays a print of the 30mm_10degrees.stl wedge installed on the e3dv6 hot end using the OEM duct. M3 screws measuring 16mm and 20mm were used to secure the fan and wedge onto the duct. The fan is shown in the flipped orientation. It may require some persuasion for the M3 screws to thread into the duct. A new duct can be prepared by threading and then removing the e3d screws from it, which will help open up the holes slightly. Tapping the holes in the duct for M3 screws may also prevent splitting at the corners of the duct lip.
