I'm fed up with donning masks in my garage every time I work on something with my trusty 3018 CNC mill. So, I took matters into my own hands and designed a dust shoe for it. The design is refreshingly simple - just a few pieces that can be easily milled using the 3018 CNC itself or 3D printed if you prefer. I came up with two versions: one tailored to the original spindle of the 3018 CNC (that's the 775 motor), and another for the upgraded spindle, which boasts a diameter of either 52mm or 55mm. One part of this nifty dust shoe will be securely fastened onto the spindle using pre-threaded holes (M4). The bottom portion, on the other hand, is removable and can be installed once you've completed all preparations for your milling job. The first version I came up with had its hose positioned too far away from the bit, which resulted in lackluster suction that struggled to pull dust particles up from the parts. I knew there had to be a better way, so I set out to create an improved version that would channel airflow more effectively around the bit - and boy, did it make a world of difference! This upgrade has transformed my 3018 CNC into a much more comfortable machine to work with. With this dust shoe in place, you'll enjoy cleaner air in your machine shop, making it a joy to spend time there. I've even created a video to walk you through the installation process - do check it out for all the details!
