3 Speed Gearbox - Printed Assembly

3 Speed Gearbox - Printed Assembly

thingiverse

I designed this 3 Speed Manual Transmission entirely myself as a final project for my 3D printing class. It was printed as a fully assembled working piece, requiring no assembly, fasteners, sanding, or post-processing of any kind. The only post processing needed is a bath in solvent to remove support material. I oriented the shafts vertically to accommodate for shaft clearances, as detailed in my print settings. This is simply a demonstration model. Clearly, transmissions in cars have constant-mesh gears, but this design demonstrates the concept of gear ratios and shows how an assembly can be printed in place as a working assembly. I haven't yet tried printing with break away supports, so if anyone does, let me know how it goes. See my video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnWeubqQ97Q for more details.
