3 LED base - compact
thingiverse
I wanted more light, but three LEDs pull too much current for a CR2032 cell, so I designed this base to run from a 2 AA battery pack connected on a short lead. To wire this up (it's a bit tricky), follow these steps: * Bend the two outer LED leads farthest from the power input into the channel and trim them so they just reach the center LED. Then solder them onto the center LED. * Solder an insulated power lead under those wires, pushing it into the left channel cut-out so it will dip under the other channel. * Repeat steps one and two for the other leads using the channel nearest the power input. * Trim the connections. I also fit a rubber or felt cover on the base to prevent short circuits and damage to the surfaces it's placed on. I use 5 mm slow-color-changing RGB LEDs, but almost any type and size can be used. These LEDs are very bright, but they have a narrow beam angle, so I made a simple diffuser to drop over the 5 mm LEDs (link). The battery pack I designed for this (and shown in the photograph) can be found at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2821282.
