3 in mecanum wheel for FIRST
thingiverse
These 3-inch diameter by 1.32 inch wide mecanum wheels are designed specifically for use in FIRST Tech Challenge: their small form factor, built-in connection to Actobotics hubs, lightweight construction, and impressive traction make them a significant improvement over commercially available mecanum wheels. We have successfully integrated them into our 40-pound robot this season, and they have held up remarkably well so far, although we occasionally experience issues with the silicone rollers tearing periodically. Our primary driving surface is ½” foam mats, but for longer life or to drive on different surfaces, consider using a stiffer silicone rubber for the rollers. Creating these wheels is an enjoyable project that will introduce you to the exciting world of casting silicone in 3D printed molds. The possibilities are limitless. We hope you find these wheels extremely helpful! To drive a robot, you will need a set of four wheels: two right and two left. Bill Of Materials (for a set of four): Printable parts: 2 x hub side left (mecwheelhubside.stl) 2 x hub side right (mirror mecwheelhubside.stl in your slicer) 2 x screw side left (mecwheelscrewside.stl) 2 x screw side right (mirror mecwheelscrewside.stl in your slicer) Top of roller mold (rollermoldtop.stl) Bottom of roller mold (rollermoldbot.stl) See the attached pdf for non-printable parts, sources, and tools.
