3-axis electromagnetic coil probe

3-axis electromagnetic coil probe

thingiverse

This is a portable framework for three perpendicular electromagnetic coils as a handheld probe. This device may be useful for detecting/measuring electromagnetic interference (EMI/RFI), electroacoustic music, and other applications that require multiple signal pickups. The varied orientations of the coils ensure that any field polarization will be captured by at least one coil. Note that summing or mixing the output signals can cause phase cancellations, but this device is designed to work with each coil independently. For sound-related purposes, the different coils allow for collecting various timbres and stereo effects in real-time. A quick demo of its capabilities can be seen picking up noise from a cordless screwdriver at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gR-ICs26C8. The code for this device is also available on GitHub at https://github.com/kpreid/3dp-3-axis-coil.
