A mid-size profile model aircraft with a wingspan of 1 to 1.5 meters (~39" to 60") requires a strong and reliable 3D printable motor mount for stability. Built from foamboard, cardboard, or balsa, this motor mount is designed to handle many 450, 480 and power-10 size motors with ease. Its built-in 1.5 degrees trust offsets, both downward and to the right, ensure a smooth flight experience. Originally created to upgrade my club's "Hummer" for the 2019 pylon racing season, this motor mount is perfect for most foamboard kits that require a decent size motor with adequate offset thrust. Its simple design makes it easy to print on modern inexpensive 3D Printers without any support needed. The parts can be printed with various materials, including PETG, ABS and other heat-tolerant printable materials that are more durable than PLA. However, the motor mount must be printed with a heat-resistant material like ABS or PETG to ensure its longevity. Printing this part with PLA is not recommended as it may deform, warp or separate at temperatures exceeding ~55 C (~130 F) during flight or immediately afterward. Since early 2019, I have successfully used this motor mount on my upgraded aircraft, which flies true at much higher speeds than stock using a power-10 size motor – 1250kv, 3-cell, 600 watts power system, turning an APC 9x9E propeller.
