3/4 Scale Electric Violin - EPV R2
thingiverse
This package contains everything needed to print a three-quarter scale version of the Electric Parametric Violin (Revision 2). This violin was designed in Solidworks 2012 as part of a parametric model that generates any necessary size of violin. If you're interested, you can find CAD files here. These instruments are my third attempt at electric violin design - my first was a one-half scale model for my daughter and the second was a one-sixteenth scale model for my son. As with my previous design, this violin's roots come from the excellent FFFiddle by David Perry. You can get any of the following EPV sizes: Four-quarter Scale Three-quarter Scale One-half Scale One-fourth Scale One-eighth Scale One-sixteenth Scale Instructions Quick Start: Look at the instructions document for detailed build instructions. Split versions of large parts are included for smaller printers. I printed all parts with raft, 15% infill, four shells. The fingerboard should be printed without support since it's hard to remove from the long holes in the part. (If you want to print this with support, use a piece of music wire with a bend at the end and a drill to clean it out.) I used ABS but any stiff polymer is okay. Additional parts needed: Schaller M6 Mini tuners (three+three) K&K sound "Twin spot" piezoelectric pickup One-fourth inch rod or tube (tube is better - rod will need to have a hole drilled in it) Violin strings Twenty inches of music wire (0.025-0.035 inch diameter - alternatively, use a ball-end violin string) Tools: Hacksaw - this helps put a slot at the end of the tube where the knot in the music wire catches. Small Phillips Screwdriver - for driving tuner screws. Variety of grits sandpaper - used to smooth out fingerboard surface. A little solvent can also be helpful. Ten mm wrench - for tightening tuner banjo nuts. Triangular or knife-edge file - for making notches in bridge and nut for strings. Use care when doing this - a sharp knife can work as well but take extra precautions. Tools for cleaning prints with support material.
