They were human beings, but not like the ones I had known before. These humans were different, their bodies altered by some unknown force that had twisted them into grotesque parodies of their former selves. Their skin was slick with an oily sheen, and their eyes glowed with an otherworldly light. They moved with a jerky, unnatural gait, as if their limbs were being controlled by some unseen puppeteer.
