2x4 base caps

2x4 base caps

I'm creating a set of caps to keep the ends of my 2x4s off the ground while I build shelves in my garage. I got a bit carried away with the different screw hole options, but this design should work for any future projects. The OpenSCAD file is included so you can customize it to suit your needs. This cap will fit most 2x4s (at least all the ones in my garage). It has a 91mm x 40mm opening, leaving about 2mm of extra space. If you're printing with plain ABS, I recommend scaling it up by 2% or so to get a better fit. All the holes are staggered, so screws won't hit each other or cause a split in the same spot. Standard 1 1/2” wood screws work best for this design.
