Recently, I installed Carl Raffle's cooling block upgrade on my 2X printer and modified rmcniff's extruder for enhanced performance. With this combination, I achieved successful PLA printing for the first time. To accomplish this, I made adjustments such as subtracting 3mm from the base to align feed holes with Carl's block, adding a screw mount for the bearing, and removing the thermal barrier recess for better filament guidance. Additionally, I removed the outer spring brace for easier access and installation of the spring. All printed parts have been verified through netfabb and are ready to use. For this modification, you will need the bearing and shoulder bolt from the original extruders, an M4 x 10-12mm flathead or #8 x 3/8 - 1/2" for the bearing, an M3 x 5-8mm flathead to attach the base to the motor, a spring (using rmcniff's suggested model: http://www.mcmaster.com/#1986k5/=qtpbwl), and follow rmcniff's excellent instructions (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:222667/#instructions).
