This is my take on a printable filament spool, and it's been influenced by several key parameters that I wanted to design around. Thanks to Jesse for starting this thread at Soliforum - it was instrumental in helping me narrow down exactly what I was trying to achieve: http://www.soliforum.com/topic/3024/reviews-of-printable-spools/ With those parameters in mind, here's the design I came up with: Entirely printable, including the center hub The interlocking connection in the center of the hub is a key feature that allows for easy assembly and disassembly. I wanted to make sure that both the inside and outside diameter of the spool could be adjusted separately, which is why I included adjustable settings for both. Tapering the inside and outside of the hub was also an important consideration - it helps ensure a secure fit between the spool and the tubing. Additionally, this design allows you to make just the spool hubs, which can then be pressure-fitted into various types of tubing (such as paper towel rolls or shipping tubes). To minimize plastic usage, I included a teardrop cutout that can be turned on or off - it's up to you to decide how much material you need. The filament holes are designed to hold the filament in place during spooling and then tie off loose ends once the job is done. I made some small fixes to the connectors, which should improve their overall performance. There are still a few options that I'd like to incorporate into future designs - but for now, this spool should meet all your needs.
