2D Clinostat for Simulated Microgravity Experiments
thingiverse
Ground-based simulators of microgravity is rotating 2D clinostats are valuable tools to study gravity related processes. This is a versatile g-value-adjustable 2D clinostat for one 90 mm Petri-dish. The drive is a SM-28BYJ-48-5V stepper motor with external 12/44 gears. The 28BYJ-48 is a 5-wire, 4-phase, unipolar stepper motor that runs on 5V, with internal gear box, that has 64:1 gear ratio. Stepper motors are controlled by input of electrical pulses, such that the speed of motor rotation is proportional to the input pulse rate. This motor rotates 11.25 degrees per step in full step mode (or 5.625 deg in half step mode). Minimal step angle: 5.625×1/64. With the two external gears one full rotation is approximately 7.500 step. Therefore the rotating wheel has a speed of 0...10 r.p.m. The motor controlled by ULN2003 driver module with Arduino. The ULN2003 module is bolted to the back of the tilting part of the clinostat above the motor.
