28mm Scale Log Canoe

28mm Scale Log Canoe

The next thing in my series of Bronze Age boats! This is a log canoe scaled to work with 28mm figures. I designed this to fit with our current D&D adventure, where the party explores along a river inhabited by savage tribes and lizardmen. It's very loosely based on the incredible bronze age canoes found at Must Farm in Cambridgeshire, which had occupants who knelt on the floor rather than sitting at benches. I've taken some liberties with scaling, especially width, to make them useful for tabletop gaming and fit onto most 3D printer print beds. If you'd like to see photos of the originals, check out http://www.mustfarm.com/bronze-age-river/discoveries/. This model comes in four files: - A small waterline canoe, perfect for figures with 20mm bases. - A small full-hull version, great for dioramas where the canoe is drawn up onto a river bank etc. - A larger waterline version, ideal for figures with bases up to about 25mm. - A large full-hull version I've kept file names short so they make sense on an Ender 3 screen. They're best printed with a brim and supports to the baseplate. I printed my test ones at 0.1mm resolution, but you can probably get away with 0.2mm for a quicker print. When I printed mine, my printer had a slight over-extrusion problem, but that actually made for a more realistic appearance! I haven't included a file for a paddle because it's most likely to be on crew figures (a future project). I'm also working on a sectional version using Openlock clips so you can make longer canoes than a print bed can handle in one piece.
