28mm Miniature Base w/Washer Cubby
thingiverse
I'm diving into Bolt Action, starting my third army. I've gone back and forth deciding which bases to use, but PVA+sand ends up working for most of my miniatures. This means the textured bases printed here often go to waste. I also glue a 1" fender washer on the bottom of all my miniatures for weight and to line carrying cases with magnetic paper and prevent minis from rolling around. I wanted something bigger than standard Warlord bases, with a lip on top, no texture required, but also able to hide the washer in the bottom. After trying a couple of times, I came up with this design. Printing these upside down is counter-intuitive because it leaves an ugly top surface, but the washer fits perfectly and once support material is scraped away, you're left with a textured surface for gluing miniatures. I glued a loose old mini on clearance to one of these bases, added some sand, and did a quick prime job. I included a picture of the washer glued on the bottom (it's perfectly flush) and another of v0.1 showing the rough top surface after support removal. This is my first Thing ever, so be gentle with me. EDIT: Made small improvements and added 2 and 3 man bases.
