28mm LVCP Higgins Boat American Landing Craft - WW2 *Work In Prog.*
thingiverse
The Higgins boat was a versatile landing craft that played a crucial role in World War II amphibious operations. Designed by Andrew Higgins to navigate swampy waters, over 23,358 of these boats were manufactured by Higgins Industries and its licensed partners. The craft's unique design allowed it to transport up to 36 soldiers at a time to shore at speeds of nearly 9 knots. Soldiers would typically board the boat via a cargo net suspended from their troop transport ship, while disembarking involved charging down a lowered bow ramp. Due to the last letter in its designation, sailors often referred to the Higgins Boat as either the "Papa Boat" or "Peter Boat," setting it apart from other landing craft like the LCU and LCM. The LCM was commonly known as the "Mike Boat."
