Sometimes referred to in jest as the CAT Daddy or Herder of CATs, the CAT Commander is a human wearing an older style of Myrmidon powered armor which is enhanced with command and control modifications, including comm antennae and targeting sensors. A thigh-top battle computer helps them wrangle their powerful, semi-autonomous charges, the CATs, or Cybernetic Automated Troopers. These hybrid battle units contain organic control systems that help them move and adapt to the many battlefields on planetary surfaces or in colonial microgravity. In accordance with the Treaty of New Brussels, though, their cognitive functions were scaled back to prevent combat-induced insanity. Thus, the CAT Commander is able to direct their fire and movement, preventing the feared cyborg-run-amuck scenario which the Treaty of New Brussels attempted to prevent. There are rumors of hacked CATs in the system, though, with heightened or restored thinking processes in command of their terrible weaponry, along with deep, murderous psychoses.
