25CMLED is a do-it-yourself LED torch light designed specifically for makers. It features an aluminum profile equipped with surface-mount diodes (SMD) and several three-dimensional printed parts that serve as battery pack holders and grips. This project is presented by blink*gestalten, which can be found online at www.blinkgestalten.de. Here's the list of required components: Six SMD LEDs Approximately one meter of copper band to act as a circuit path Several wires A toggle switch A battery clip A battery pack for six AA cells Three-dimensional printed parts (battery pack holders and grip) Four M3 screws, 10 mm in length One M3 screw, 16 mm long One M3 screw, 18 mm in length An aluminum profile (length 25 cm, dimensions B x H1 x H2: 40 mm x 15 mm x 40 mm) Note that the comprehensive assembly instructions are beyond the scope of this project. Therefore, these instructions only cover the assembly of the three-dimensional printed parts. If you want to learn how to assemble SMD LEDs, feel free to visit my LED lamp workshop at FabLab Munich, which can be found online at http://wiki.fablab-muenchen.de/display/WIKI/Programm. The design of this project was inspired by the torch light described in a book that can be purchased on Amazon at www.amazon.de/LED-Wohnraumlicht-Band-1-1-S-Leuchtenberg-ebook/dp/B00C1NLIDM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1420539212&sr=8-2&keywords=wohnraumlicht. Assembly Instructions: Note that the complete assembly instructions are beyond the scope of this project. Therefore, these instructions only cover the assembly of the three-dimensional printed parts. To assemble 25CMLED, follow these steps: Saw an aluminum profile to a length of 25 cm Chamfer the aluminum profile Create a paper drilling template by printing DrillingTemplate.svg and stick it to the bottom of the aluminum profile Mark the hole positions using the drilling template Drill holes and chamfer them Mount the SMD LEDs, which is a more complex process that cannot be described here. Visit my workshop at FabLab Munich to learn how to build the SMD LED lamp. Print three-dimensional parts Sink the holes in the three-dimensional parts using a drill Slip part 3 (the grip) into part 2 (the battery holder) and screw it using a M3 16 mm and M3 18 mm counter-sunk screw Screw the battery holder parts to the aluminum profile using four M3 10mm counter-sunk screws Solder two long wires to the toggle switch and mount the toggle switch. Solder the wires coming from the SMD LEDs and the toggle switch wires to the battery clip Mount the battery clip You're done!
