I'm tackling my line-of-sight flying challenges and I've realized it's often tough to figure out which end is up and how my quadcopter is heading - the whole thing looks like a solid black sphere! I was having issues with landings as well, since the landing gear screws kept getting scuffed up. The constant wear and tear were taking a toll on my particular quad. I resolved to tackle this problem by printing a skid plate out of high-quality PLA filament using my Printrbot. It required some fine-tuning with a drill or Dremel to get it fitting perfectly around the screw patterns, but I managed to do it within a few minutes. Next up, I'm thinking of printing another version in black for the front. Maybe I'll try out different dimensions as well - I think adding thicker and taller skids could make a difference. Also, I might increase clearance for the internal bolt; that socket wrench was giving me a bit of trouble! edit - just added an alternative version with enhanced features!
