Propfan Engine", "Open Rotor Engine" and "Ultra High Bypass Engine" were developed as a more advanced alternative to the "Turboprop Engine" to achieve high flying speeds with minimal fuel consumption. Several types of engines exist, including: ・"Puller (Retract) type" - This engine has a contra-rotating propeller with a gearbox located at the front, similar to a traditional turboprop. ・"Pusher (Un-Ducted Fan) type” - This engine features a contra-rotating fan without a gearbox, located at the rear. However, development of this type was halted due to noise issues and other problems. Please refer to my object: "Propfan Engine, Pusher Type". ・"Pusher (Planetary GB) type” - This engine has a contra-rotating fan with a gearbox located at the rear. It is a relatively new design developed in Europe. I am very interested in understanding how this engine works, so I decided to create one myself. A. Key Features of this Engine Type: 1. The power turbine drives the fans through a sun gear. 2. A planetary gearbox produces two outputs that drive the fans through the planet carrier and ring gear. 3. Torque from each output is controlled by adjusting the fan blade pitch in stages. 4. Blade Pitch Change Mechanism and Control Method (System) are crucial components. B. Features of this Model: 1. The power turbine and contra-rotating fan can be powered by a small motor using dry cells. 2. A drag torque device is used instead of blade pitch control due to the absence of a pitch change mechanism. 3. The engine cutaway model is located inside the cowling, but it does not rotate when powered by the motor. 4. The entire engine cowling has a removable cover. Video: https://youtu.be/cq59D1QPtXE B. Assembly Manual (PDF format, 30 pages) This detailed assembly manual includes parts lists, after-printing treatments, and assembly procedures based on standard skills such as filing, drilling, tapping, and painting. C. General Notes: 1. Bearing Selection: Open-type ball bearings with low friction are used in this model due to their importance in smooth rotation. - Bearing sizes: ① 9 x17x4 ② 10x19x5 ③ 25x37x7 ④ 3x6x2.5 (every 2 ea.) 2. For M1.4 Screw: No tapping is needed; simply drill with a φ1.0 drill and screw in directly. 3. STL file naming convention: "ws" at the end indicates "With Support", a special design. Downloadable files include: - STL Files (61 items) - PDF(Zip) File: Assembly Manual - images: Assembly Photos Purchase Parts Information: - BRGs: Refer to the assembly manual - Aluminum Tubes: Refer to the assembly manual - Screws Micro screws M1.4x3.5L - Approximately 30 ea - Direct screw-in to a 1 mm dia hole (No nut) - Screws M2 x ** - Refer to the assembly manual - Motor is optional Assembly Points: - Standard skills such as drilling, tapping, filing, tightening, painting, and gluing are required. - Blending and finishing of gear teeth are crucial for smooth rotation. - Other details can be found in the assembly manual. Total Net Print Time: Approximately 130 hours (estimated using PLA, 0.4mm nozzle, 0.2mm layer height, 40% infill, no raft, and support) Note: Actual print times may vary based on individual experience. [Update 2019.1.4] Mod. Rotors (HPC, IPC) have been added as options to the STL files and manual.
