24h clock for kids
thingiverse
When my kid turned 3 years old we created this clock to teach him some scheduling when it comes to time for diner, time for bed, time for playing, etc. We told him for example "when the needle touches this picture, it is time for dinner, so please, turn off the TV". This clock helped us a lot and saved us several discussions. And when it turned 5, it helped us to teach him how the day works around 24h. He could see how when a day is ended it begins another day. The clock runs through 5v coming from battery or mini usb. You connect the battery to the arduino nano board and it gives energy to the motor.I am not gonna lie to you, this clock has a lot of pieces and have some challenges:1) The code for controlling the motor. You have to know a bit of arduino programming.2) The metalic center of the clock for the magnets. The solution was to buy a magnetic whiteboard and cut it with the exact measures. Then, once you have the body assambled, programmed and running, there comes the easy part: print some drawings and paste them into the plaques. You have to attach them a few 5x1mm magnets.BOM:· Lots of 3mm screws, not too long.· A few bigger screws.*** I am very sorry, I made this clock 3 years ago and I don't remember how many and how big. If you have a set of regular screws, it will be OK. I used the most common.· 1 arduino nano.· 1 motor 28BYJ-48 5v and 1 ULN2003. https://es.aliexpress.com/item/4001220853680.html· 1 module IIC DS3231 AT24C32. https://es.aliexpress.com/item/32925920564.html· 1 iron bar of 1,5mm x 55mm or a bit less. This is what brings movement to the minute hand.Once you have all the pices printed, it is very simple and straight forward procedure.I didn't find the arduino code for the clock, very sorry (again). But you can find tones of webs with the code. You only need to search for "clock" "arduino nano" "uln2003" and "DS3231". If I ever find it I will share it.Enjoy it!
