2100W 14V/12V Generator
thingiverse
I need an automatic way to recharge my boat battery without relying on dock power, which can be unreliable. Self-starting generators are prohibitively expensive, and I had a spare alternator for my Mercedes lying around after a near-disastrous incident when the bilge pump drained my battery to zero. Decided to create my own system after that harrowing experience. **Essential Parts:** * **Bosch AL0789X 150A Alternator**: This is the heart of my DIY generator, and I found it by searching "mercedes (320,430,500) alternator" on eBay. Other alternators may fit if they have the same mounting points and pulley dimensions. * **Wingsmoto 49cc Electric Start Engine**: These are common Chinese engines available from several suppliers under various brands. You can find them on Amazon. * **ANNIMOS 20KG RC Servo**: This servo controls the throttle, but you may need to adjust the code for its response curves if you use a different servo. * **K&N 62-1360 Vent Air Filter**: This filter helps keep my engine running smoothly by providing clean air. You can find it on Amazon. * **1/4" Aluminum Plate**: I used this plate as a base to bolt the mounts to. If you plan to use your generator in wet conditions, consider using wood instead. To make the servo-to-throttle linkage, all you need is a paper clip. For the bolts and nuts, check out the image on Imgur. The control board will be posted on OSHPark once it's finalized, along with the source code on Github. If you just want a 12v generator without self-starting capabilities, you only need to install the engine/alternator mounts and coupler. The engines come in electric+pull start or pull start only configurations. To optimize performance, tune the throttle manually for your specific load level. The base plate is not meant to be printed; I cut mine using a waterjet. However, you can print a single layer on aluminum to use as a drilling template.
