When assembling a project using 20x40 V-Slot Linear Rail, it becomes challenging to add parts once completed due to the closed end of the rail preventing new nut insertion. A notable advantage of the drop-in nut design lies in its accessibility anywhere along the rail. The nut securely fits into the slot and maintains position when turned. Initially, I harbored reservations about creating this component, given its compact size and potential weakness. However, my Prusa MK2.5 successfully printed a PLA part with remarkable accuracy and strength, dispelling my initial doubts. Two versions of the design have been developed: one incorporates an M4 bolt that self-treads into the nut, while the other features an insert area for an M3 nut. Both variations appear equally robust and suitable for non-structural applications. It is essential to note that this design functions optimally with PLA material only. PETG does not print well under these conditions. To achieve optimal results, it is crucial to set the 'PRINT SETTINGS' in Slic3r to '0.15 Optimal,' with perimeters set to 7 and infill at 100%.
