20x4 LCD Display case with FT232h USB adapter mount
thingiverse
This is a display case for a compact 20x4 i2c lcd screen paired with an ft232h usb breakout board. With some basic coding skills, you can harness this setup to display notification messages from your computer on a separate screen or showcase data from a raspberry pi or arduino. The design allows you to see the status lights of the ft-232h through holes in the case. I created this as part of an ongoing robotics project but it makes for a great standalone feature so I decided to share it. I printed it using hatchbox wood filament (215 nozzle, 30 bed). The picture shows it stained and glazed. I didn't use any supports during printing; instead, I printed it standing upright on its end. The only reason I did this was to maintain consistency in printing conditions every time. As an afterthought, I realized that the usb port is facing downwards due to a design choice. This doesn't affect anything, but feel free to modify and improve it if you'd like. Assembly involves fitting the end caps, which may be tight at first but will loosen up over time. Place the back two corners in first, then gently push the front corner into place. Make sure to insert the display from the right side, flat against the back of the case, so that the i2c board can fit securely. Once the board is in, tilt the display to its standard angle and press the left side into the display opening. Finally, slide it to the left so it can wrap around the jumper tracks on the ft-232h. If needed, you can secure the ft-232h with hot glue for extra stability. Optional: You can position the display upside down and place the case on its other side for a shallower angle if desired. Components used: * SunFounder IIC I2C TWI Serial 2004 20x4 lcd * Adafruit ft232h breakout - general-purpose usb to gpio+spi+i2c
