I see many reasons to print it like this: Material savings come from printing two separate parts instead of one, reducing the amount of material needed for each cup holder. Time printing savings are also realized as smaller prints can be completed in less time. Clean up time is significantly reduced with fewer moving parts to clean around. The design will print on smaller profile printers, making it more accessible to a wider range of users. If one part breaks, just replace that broken part instead of the entire cup holder.
