To alleviate the hassle of manually adjusting the Z axis screw for perfect starting layers, I created a modified RepG example file. After sanding the new knob section for a snug fit on the motor, I applied a tiny drop of superglue and let it dry to avoid gluing issues with the motor. Now, changing Z height is more manageable, and the attractive knob indicates when a new layer begins.
