20mm switch box for 3d printer
thingiverse
Continuing with my learning journey of creating functional components, I aimed to design a versatile switch box that would enable me to control the white LEDs on my printers independently from their motherboard. To achieve this goal, I opted for a clamshell-style setup that can be securely attached to both 2020 and 2040 extruders found in various printers. The resulting design boasts an overall height of 20mm and a width-to-length ratio of 24mm, allowing me to seamlessly integrate a high-quality power switch from Pololu: https://www.pololu.com/product/2809. Additionally, I incorporated a 12mm A/V momentary switch to provide a smooth on/off functionality while also utilizing the LED in the button for an extra touch of flair. The outer shell is constructed with a thickness of 2mm, providing flexibility in case modifications are needed to the top hole's diameter. Meanwhile, the mushroom-shaped component serves as a plug to seal the hole used for screwing the switch onto the printer.
