2032 battery holder and switch
thingiverse
This project is a direct response to the 3D printing Professor's request for a custom-made battery holder and switch specifically designed for 3V button cells. Upon researching available options, it became apparent that there was a significant lack of suitable solutions that could be easily incorporated into projects. To complete this battery holder design, you will need to source copper strip material. The model is optimized to utilize 24g 1/4" copper strip material, which can be readily obtained from various online suppliers such as Ebay. Alternatively, brass material can also be used for added durability and springiness; searching for "24g copper/brass" on your preferred supplier's website should yield suitable results. Copper or brass shim material from machinists' suppliers can also be successfully cut down for use in this project. These materials are versatile and can be employed to create a wide range of battery holders. The slots within the model design are engineered to provide a snug fit. To achieve a tight and permanent connection, it is recommended to gently heat the metal using a candle flame before inserting it into the slots. The switch requires a 3mm machine screw for operation. By driving the screw through the hole until it just touches the +ive metal plate, you can activate the battery. Tightening the screw further will push the contact plate against the side of the battery, effectively turning it "on." The -ive connection is located at the bottom plate. When working with these materials, it's essential to exercise caution when soldering to avoid melting the battery holder. To prevent this issue, attach the wires before inserting the contacts into the holder. Utilizing a very hot soldering iron will ensure successful wire attachment.
