2020 Tool Holders

I can almost never find my tools when I need them. In looking for a better place to keep things, I realized there's a lot of space on the upper crossbar of my printer frame that's totally unused, even when the print bed is at maximum height. So, I printed up some compact holders to slot into the 2020 extrusion frame and neatly organize my tools out of my way.

The holders are designed to fit snugly into the 2020 channel of my FolgerTech printer, though I'm guessing they'll work with any standard 2020 aluminum.

Holder design #1 was designed for my pallet knife, which I use to remove prints from the bed. Design #2 works great for a set of tweezers (which I always seem to need when printing but can never find), and #3 was intended for a file.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

RepRap

Printer:

Folgertech 2020 Prusia i3

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

.3mm

Infill:

70%

Notes:

The two "fork" style holders (#1 and #3) are intended to be printed with the points of the fork and the base of the T-nut facing down on the build plate. Design #2 prints on its side, with the short edge of the box resting on the build plate. See below for a picture of the preferred printing orientation.

Because the parts are so small and the tolerance for a good, snug fit in the T-channel is so tight, printing in different orientations than described above may result in a less-than-ideal fit. If the fit doesn't work out, scaling the part by a few percent in the direction that isn't fitting may help get a better fit.

A brim may be necessary, especially for the two "fork" style holders (#1 and #3).

Cura was used for support generation at 25% support fill.

Printing Orientation

Category: Tool Holders & Boxes
