2020 Spool Holder
myminifactory
A spool holder designed specifically to fit onto the 20mm profile of various aluminum extrusions, including 2020, 2040, 2060, and others. The arm fits over and into the extrusion, while the retention plate secures it on the other side, sandwiching the extrusion tightly in place. Secure with M5 screws and nuts of sufficient length for the specific extrusion being used, with a minimum of 1.2 mm for 2020, 3.2 mm for 2040, and so forth. For the axle, I employed a wooden dowel wrapped with duct tape to achieve a diameter of approximately 7.8mm. An 8mm bearing was then installed, allowing the spool to rotate smoothly. You can substitute this component with any solid material that can support your spool's weight. This spool holder boasts exceptional rigidity and lightness due to its framing design. The clamping mechanism onto the aluminum extrusion is remarkably secure. A clear opening at the top facilitates easy installation and removal of the axle. Important Notes: The STL files are optimized for printing with objects lying flat on the bed, ensuring optimal results. To assemble a complete holder, you will need two sets of each part. However, I recommend printing them one set at a time to account for any printer tolerances that may cause issues. This approach minimizes plastic waste in case adjustments are necessary. Post-Printing Instructions: Secure the parts together using four screws and nuts. It is normal for the center tooth on each part to exhibit some resistance as you push it into place, which contributes to a tight fit. Conversely, if the part does not fit all the way down into the extrusion due to outside legs being too tight, simply increase the size by 1% and try again.
