### Updates 1. 3/10/2018 - Assembled all necessary components and connected temporary belt pieces with grbl. The system is now moving! Unfortunately, I initially assumed that corexy was similar to a drafting board straight edge, but it's actually for motion, not maintaining perpendicular edges to the sides. Correction: True corexy does work and maintains perpendicular y-axis alignment. To achieve this, I added pulleys and ensured the machine stays square (1000mm x 600mm). The hbot configuration doesn't keep the y-axis true, but true core xy does. 1. Updated two parts with slightly tricky holes that required a bit of extra effort to get screws in place. One part had an alignment extrusion with excess material. 1. Added custom parts for the tool carriage. 1. Updated end brackets for dual idler pulleys, correcting the y-axis by using pulleys that maintain perpendicularity to the frame extrusions (drafting machine, corexy). The outermost pulleys on these brackets are elevated to allow belts to pass each other smoothly. I'm using a spacer on the shaft. 1. Added a small model of the assembly. Note that the belts used in this model are basic extrusions and don't follow a true path due to their slightly upward angle. # XY Laser/Plotter Project I wanted to create a cnc gantry that could be used as a plotter or laser engraver, possibly large enough to cut/draw/etch on a 20"x30" sheet of foam core. I had leftover 1-meter and 600mm 2020 extrusions and decided to build something similar to the anycubic delta printer I'd previously used. With a lightweight motion system, derlin rollers should be sufficient for moving a laser around quickly and accurately. I prefer the lack of moving motors in corexy motion systems. This project is similar to hbot-type 3d printer xy motion with belt layout and anchored at the middle carriage (not yet designed; probably just a paper clip for now). ### Some objectives of this project are 1. Primary - Create a system to drive a laser etching diode and plotting pen (5500 mw diode available from previous project) - Size for 20"x30" work area - Use 2020 extrusions - Rollers in lieu of slides or bearings - 3d printed parts for ease - Accuracy over the length of belt - Cheap easy-to-get fasteners (inch) 2. Secondary - Co2 tube upgrade? - Wall mountable - Electronics box integrated - Low part count I'm currently building a roller xy plotter gantry loosely based on the remix of CoreXY Frame (v.2.0) by Lehaiver. I couldn't find any roller carriages similar to the anycubic delta printer (pulley version), so I created this variant using 2020 extrusions with derlin rollers. The stepper holder are the primary remixed item. I'll post updates as this comes together. - [x] Layout main components - [x] Revisions for straight belt alignment - [x] Some components printed - [ ] All printing complete? - [ ] All electronic components available, can use grbl or marlin for motion control - [ ] Electronics test - [ ] HPGL? - [ ] Assembly - [ ] Fastener list? - [ ] Belt length - [ ] Smooth rollers instead of tooth pulleys for idlers - [ ] Confirm rigidity for the frame at the desired size
