2020 Mountable Optical Filament Sensor
thingiverse
Here's a remix of the optical filament sensor from http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1646220, modified with two M5 holes to fit snugly onto a 2020 extrusion. It uses a no-name optical endstop switch (like this one http://www.geeetech.com/images/v/Geeetech_IMG_5412.jpg) and guides the filament through it effortlessly. The endstop is connected to a Raspberry Pi running Octoprint, which expertly handles parking and resuming via the Filament Sensor Plugin at http://plugins.octoprint.org/plugins/filament_sensor . This setup works seamlessly with all 1.75 mm filament types (you can easily drill it out for 3mm), except transparent ones, of course. I've also added a version where the holes under the sensor electronics are threaded for M3 screws to keep everything secure in place. Furthermore, I have another design that takes an M6 threaded bowden connector on the output - printing this at high quality is recommended for optimal thread performance.
