2020 Dumpster Fire Lantern Ornament (Angled Fire)
thingiverse
This model was just crying out to be lit up - so I bought some transparent orange filament, scaled it up a bit, and took apart LED candles to put a proper flickering light inside. The LED candles pop apart pretty easily using a small flathead screwdriver; I reused the included flame-shaped diffuser to help spread light more evenly to the inside of the flame. I removed the outer shell of the candle, as it was unnecessary and I wanted to keep the printed flame's base large enough to pressure-fit appropriately. The entire model was scaled up to 135% in TinkerCAD so that I could make the alterations for the LED candle. (No scaling should be required to print.) I may tweak the flame design slightly so that it can clip into place; I'm also debating alternative methods to attach the 2020 text (currently affixed using Loctite Ultragel super glue). Cutting into the dumpster a bit may be an option, for a similar friction-fit to the flame; I'll update this model with changes if I make that tweak and it works. I'm also considering making a modified, original-sized version that lets you affix small dumpsters to a string of standard Mini-Lights. Proves to be a fun holiday-season gift - and perhaps just a trophy in tribute to the crazy year we've all just made it through.
