This robot was created for a CADathon hosted by our robotics team (FRC 226). After giving us a fake robotics game, we had to design a robot that could earn the maximum amount of points. This robot was created in two weeks and is one of the largest projects in CAD that I've ever undertaken. This robot placed first in the competition and was featured on the team robotics page. It has a two stage elevator with a carriage, a turret, two sets of telescoping arms, and a west coast drivetrain. The elevator was probably the most complicated part on the robot. Size constraints played a huge role in its design because of its size. In particular, trying to create a gearbox that fit inside the small elevator carriage but could also support the heavy arm was especially difficult. This telescoping arm was designed to lift the entire robot up at the end of the match. Because of the amount of weight that it has to support, the gearing and gearbox were the hardest part of this mechanism to design. This design features a lot of pocketing to reduce its overall weight and a pancake piston to hold the climber in place after the motors turn off.
