2020 Aluminum Extrusion Frame Corner
thingiverse
A strong corner piece for building frames out of 2020 Aluminum extrusion is designed with precision. Each of the three pieces joined together by the part are contacted by three screws each in a triangular pattern to ensure maximum rigidity. The part fits into the extrusion's slot for a tight secure fit, and the screw holes are precisely engineered for M4 screws with hex socket head caps, featuring a 2mm counter sink on each hole. One of the screw holes is designed specifically for an M6 metric screw, requiring the end of the extrusion to be tapped for this purpose. General Specifications: Printing at 40% for strength and using PLA as the material is recommended. A layer height of 0.2mm is optimal for screw hole and countersink accuracy. M4 metric screws with a 2mm countersink are used, and channel slots ensure a tight and square fit. An M6 metric screw is required for the tapped hole at the end of the extrusion. Update: Two additional models have been added, one being a variation of the original part without the tapped hole, while the other features a cube in the corner and lacks the hole for tapping, as it becomes unnecessary with this design. These new models are nearly identical to the original, created using OnShape's parametric modeling capabilities. Update 1/23/2020: This part is now obsolete! A newly updated version of all these parts plus new ones can be found at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4117326. Check them out and print them; share your thoughts! Print Settings: Printer: Maker Architect (Replicator 1 Clone with Heatbed) Rafts: No Supports: Doesn't Matter Resolution: 0.2mm Infill: 40% Notes: Printed with Ultimachien PLA at 210C, 40mm/s for perimeters, 90mm/s for infill, 25mm/s for the first layer, 0.2mm layer height, and 40% infill for strength. Feel free to adjust these settings according to your needs. Design Process: Modeled in OnShape using the extrusion tool and chamfer tool to create a precise design.
