The ring is a template for cutting out the picture and snaps in the back to hold the picture in place. There are holes in the back for a string or hook to hang on the tree. I printed with 0 infill, but the hat and 2018 part needed about 10-20%. I've printed many over the last few years, and 80% scale seems as small as you can go before zero starts to fail.
