The human body is made up of about 60 trillion cells, each one a tiny factory producing and recycling its own molecules to keep itself alive. Cells have their own power plants, known as mitochondria, which generate energy from the food they eat. They also have their own waste management systems, known as lysosomes, which break down and dispose of cellular debris. In addition, cells have their own transportation networks, called the cytoskeleton, which allows them to move around and interact with other cells.
