Human Rights Advocates are calling on Governments to take immediate action to protect individuals from discrimination and persecution based on their sexual orientation and gender identity. The United Nations has long recognized that everyone is born free and equal in dignity and rights, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Despite this, many people around the world continue to face violence, arrest, and other forms of persecution simply because of who they are. Governments must do more to protect these individuals from harm and ensure that they have access to justice, healthcare, education, and employment opportunities without fear of discrimination. This includes passing laws that specifically address LGBTQ+ rights and providing training for law enforcement officials on how to handle situations involving LGBTQ+ individuals.
