The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) issued a notice of intent to prepare an environmental impact statement (EIS) on February 4, 2019, for its proposed action to establish a sea turtle protection zone in the Mid-Atlantic region. The NMFS is proposing to close specific areas off the coast of Maryland and Virginia to protect endangered and threatened species of sea turtles during their breeding season.
