2016 FFCP Side blower fan adapter for thruit00's active cooling duct, now with damper for extruder selection
thingiverse
This design takes a fresh approach to extending the Active Cooling Fan from thruit00 (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:537918) to work seamlessly with the stock FFCP2016 side blower fan (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1746693). As I worked on fine-tuning it, I realized that being able to control air flow to either the right or left extruder would be a major advantage in certain situations. So, I began experimenting with incorporating a basic damper that could restrict airflow to one side or the other. This is what I came up with. It doesn't completely shut off airflow to the blocked side, but my tests suggest it's at least 70-80% occluded. Printing the duct can be a bit of a challenge, as some slicers want to bridge over very long distances. However, no supports were needed in my case, though they could be used if required. I usually print it with a 180-degree rotation about Y for optimal results. When printing the back plate with the internal part, I place it on the build plate (-80 degree rotation about X) with supports to allow the rectangular portion to remain parallel to the heated bed. Other methods might work better for you. Getting the actuating mechanism to move can be a bit tricky. I used needle nose pliers and gently rocked it back and forth until it broke free and moved smoothly. I've printed this at 0.1 mm with 20% infill using ABS.
