2015 Fairy Tail Lanyard Decoration
thingiverse
I found out about and joined my local maker community two years back after bumping into fellow makers at Naka-Kon, an anime convention that's happening again in just a few months. Since then, I started thinking that it would be awesome if makers could easily spot each other at these events by sporting some unique identifier showcasing their shared interests. That's exactly how the 2015 Fairy Tail lanyard decoration was born! This handy accessory simply clips onto your lanyard or badge at any convention you'd like to attend, making it easy for me and my fellow makers to recognize one another. You'll probably catch me sporting mine at Naka-Kon this year, and I'd love to see others doing the same. Who knows, maybe if this project gets a lot of love, I'll create a new one every year from now on! You can choose between two versions: one for single-extrusion printers or dual-extrusion ones. The main difference lies in tolerances – the single-extrusion files have more room for adjustment to make it easier to fit parts together. Dual-extrusion files are designed to work seamlessly with printers that use both nozzles at once. Keep an eye out for loose-fitting insert parts, which might require some adjustments on your part. Try printing the insert portion from the dual extrusion files and see if they match up better. To print this decoration successfully, pay close attention to the settings in your slicing program – the main body already has built-in supports for bridging gaps. Using a small flat-head screwdriver will make it easy to remove those supports. Printing should take about an hour and 45 minutes on average speeds; go slow and you'll get detailed results and a precise fit between parts. Once everything's printed, check the fit of both main portion and inserts – they should clip together with ease. Mine were initially too tight, but trimming excess material off the inserts fixed that issue. For tougher cases, try gently pounding them into place with a hammer while holding the lettering in place with needle-nose pliers.
