2011 Jetta Windshield Wiper Adapter

I designed this as a functional prototype. Given I haven't tested its durability in actual road conditions and weather scenarios, nor have I controlled or validated other manufacturers' printer qualities, I advise against using it on roads for real driving. Nonetheless, I created it to tackle my issue with finding compatible wiper blades for my 2011 VW Jetta TDI. The specialized connector for this model proved challenging to replace, costing nearly $40 at the dealership. It seems unfair that Volkswagen demands a proprietary connection for something as basic as wipers without first exploring more standard solutions. This adapter allows attaching a standard US wiper blade to my vehicle. To better blend in with its surroundings, I 3D printed it in a light beige hue; black would likely be preferred for most vehicles, while others may opt for a color matching their car's paint job. Print and assembly details can be found under the instructions tab. Instructions For durability reasons, I chose ABS over PLA as the material of choice, given PLA is known to melt easily in high temperatures and crack during winter conditions. The printing process was set at 0.2mm layer height and a moderate infill density of 50%, accompanied by supportive elements. Ensure these parts are printed with their intended orientation; some support structures may be necessary, but orienting them minimizes the risk of part damage upon assembly. Upon completion of printing, remove all unnecessary support material and verify a secure fit before gluing the two pieces together. The bottom piece features a guide rail on each side near the top that fits into the receiving opening in the top part; inspect these areas closely (refer to the second-to-last image). Ensure they fit snugly without any noticeable play. Once satisfied with the fit, carefully apply adhesive to the designated points as indicated by the final picture and slide the pieces together. It is crucial to understand that it's the adhesive holding the parts together, not merely the alignment guides. Therefore, properly seal all joints with a suitable adhesive before assembly completion. Upon the glue's complete drying, secure the lower piece onto a standard wiper blade and install this unit on the vehicle as normal.
