Can you believe that only a few short years ago, people had to take their chances and stick out their arms into the midst of bustling city streets just to get a ride somewhere? Technology companies are still grappling with this reality today. Even now, every cab company within reach is struggling to wrap its head around how a pair of casual sneakers equipped with smartphone apps could decimate an entire industry in just half a decade. Then they expanded their scope and started doing other things that don't exactly reframe the last point, but make it look pale in comparison.
