The latch holding the hazard triangle compartment closed on my 2002 Audi Avant snapped a few years ago, prompting me to take matters into my own hands. Equipped with a 3D printer, I set out to devise a solution that would hold up over time. After three rounds of trial and error, I landed on a design consisting of three interconnected parts. Print Settings: Printer: QIDI Pro Rafts: It makes little difference either way. Supports: Likewise, they're not crucial in this instance. Resolution: 0.2mm is the optimal setting for this project. Infill: A balance between 20% and 65% provides a sturdy latch, especially when it comes to the shaft (recommended). If you opt out of supports, be aware that bridging may occur, potentially ruining the print if not addressed properly. Post-Printing: Assembly: The shaft without the hole is inserted into the operator with a press fit. While this should suffice, a small amount of glue can help secure it in place. The two parts were joined together using a #4 screw. Notably, the hole in the shaft was intentionally undersized to accommodate flexibility in screw sizes and was subsequently drilled out for the #4 wood screw used. How I Designed This: My design was crafted using Solidworks.
