Here's a very simple spool holder crafted with just 20 mm x 20 mm aluminum extrusion. A top round rod supporting the spool is fashioned from the same lightweight metal as the rest of the piece. Its diameter is exactly 6.35 millimeters - a quarter inch to be exact. The lengths of the two bars that form the vertical frame of the spool holder vary, but on my printers, they come in at 44 centimeters.
