20/30 Circular Friction Mount for GoPro

If you've ever tried designing a mounting component before, you've had to weigh the trade-offs between using a durable, hard plastic like PETG or ABS and a flexible, rubbery plastic like TPU or TPE. Picking a hard plastic means your tolerances must be spot on for the part holding your device - too small and it won't fit; too big, and your device will fly out at the first sign of trouble. Choosing a soft plastic means your device can be snugly encased in a nice rubbery plastic, but your mount might flop around or worse - tear or crack when put under strain. This component lets you forget about that trade-off and instead use each plastic for the job it was designed to do. This mounting system allows you to use a hard plastic like PETG or ABS for the durable mounting components while using a flexible plastic like TPU or TPE for the part holding your device. It's based on a 20mm plastic pin with a 30mm flange that fits snugly into an inset in your flexible part, and a 30mm cup that the pin inserts into. When properly assembled and tightened, this creates a strong bond between the flange of the pin component, the flexible part, and the rim of the cup component, giving you wide-strong attachment to your flexible part without sacrificing the strength of your mounting components. I originally designed this for use with my Baofeng UV5R Mount, but I also plan to use the same mounting system for a few other projects. Also shown above is a GoPro Handlebar Mount (M6 / Captive nut).
