See it in action! - https://youtu.be/5HQalZzB_zQ What is it? This is what I call a CDCP, or a Carrier Driven Compound Planetary. It's very similar to a typical compound planetary, except for the fact that it doesn't have a sun gear, so the input becomes the carrier. When you spin the carrier 20 times, the second ring gear will make one rotation (depending on which way you're holding it). Print Settings! This assembly requires a lot of precision in your printer. Before printing it, make sure to change your nozzle, tighten your belts, calibrate your printer, and print it extremely slowly. You might also consider using a negative horizontal expansion setting in your slicer. The Fusion 360 file includes a parameter for bearing clearance; it's default set to leave 0.2mm clearance over or under the bearing diameter - you can adjust this in the parameters window. Hardware Required! You'll need two 6808 bearings for the ring gears, nine 693 Bearings for the planets and sun rear bearing, one 3mm rod for the planets, a 3mm drill bit, four 3mm washers, and four 3mm x 35mm hex head screws. You'll also need four 3mm nuts. Assembly I haven't made an assembly video for this exact model, but it's extremely similar to this assembly video - with the exception of the missing sun gear https://youtu.be/_VgXObcfXug . There are some points that I missed in the video: you need to place a 3mm washer on the side of the planets that have numbers before installing the bearings on them. Make sure your washers only contact the inner race of the bearings. Insert the planets in the order and orientation shown in the video; if you can't read the numbers, or if you cannot see the marks, you'll need to reprint them more carefully. Other Important Info: CAD Files? I included the Fusion 360 Project with this, but the most recent version of this project can be downloaded in lots of different formats from this link: Gearing Information The final ratio is 20:1 or 1:20. Planetary Gear Set A has teeth planets of 13 and a ring of 38; Planetary Gear Set B has teeth planets of 13 and a ring of 40. Show Your Work! Make something with it, and show everyone what you made!
